About TntWare
is this the best way to do this with the google apps contacts? or is their a way to do it without outlook?
Hi Enders79, I would say this is the best way to do it. Even if I only had a Mac, I'd install Parallels or VMware with Windows just for when I need to use the Outlook/TntMPD integration for: archiving Emails into History, Syncing Contacts and/or Mail-Merge to Email. It just all works so well. In comparison there are other, more manual ways to do this. You could export your TntMPD list to a CSV file and you could import the contacts into Google Contacts from this CSV file. But it gets tricky when you try to maintain updates this way. --Troy
Troy,
Are you going to provide some Going Google Helps for TNTMPD users to assist in the transition?
Hi Ray, This FAQ article has been it for now. What would you have in mind?
I have been using Google App Sync for a couple months now, and I have noticed a consistent bug. When the sync occurs, the "preferred address" field isn't updated correctly in Outlook. It consistently flips this field value from "Home" to "Business" even when there isn't anything in the Business address field.
When TNT goes to sync this, if you don't manually flip all those changes back, it corrupts all your address data. This has actually created a significant mess in my address data. More than half my records now have a business address in TNT rather than a home address, and I have had to manually repair my data by going through each record on several occasions.
So far, this does not feel like a sustainable solution. I am not expecting Google to fix this bug (assuming it is the Google App Sync that keeps flipping this field value in Outlook).
Hi squarejer, THANKS for the head's up on this! I confirmed it. The Mailing Address Type stays put until you make a change on Google's side. Sorry for the pain you had to go through to uncover this. :( The next major version of TntMPD will resolve this issue by making "Mailing Address Type as Export Only". I noticed that the concept of "Mailing Address" doesn't even exist in Google Contacts (or on my iPhone ... or in iCloud Contacts). Seems like the concept of picking one address as the one you'll use for mailings hasn't made it too far past TntMPD and Outlook as far as consumer-based contact managers. It makes me wonder how one might make mailing labels from Google Contacts if you have multiple postal addresses per contact. You may have noticed me not being in the office for a few weeks. I'm nose to the grindstone working on TntMPD 3.0. The synchronization to Outlook (and MailChimp) will be much improved, and it will include this option. An "alpha" test copy will be available in a few weeks. ("alpha" is pre-beta.) I'll very much look forward to your feedback. --Troy
Hey Troy, I am looking for a similar possiblity, were getting Google apps for our new YWAM base and use TNT religiously, but I would love to no longer maintain contacts in multiple places. Problem is my whole team is a mac only, windows averse group. Do you have any working / possiblile solutions for syncing with google apps contacts from mac tnt?
I am open to bootcamping it,
But this is my formal feature request :)
Thanks a million
Becky, this is on the roadmap for next year, Lord willing! For now you need Bootcamp or Parallels or VMware, etc.
Hi Troy. Any updates to this process? I'm running on a Mac and would love to be able to sync my contacts from my personal Gmail as well as the Google apps suite that my team uses. Can it be done?
Unfortunately, my plans in this area are still on hold.
Are you familiar with this application? www.Companionlink.com It will sync Outlook with Google on Mac or Windows. Maybe it could help out your Mac only side desires? I used it years ago quite a bit and it worked very well, including converting Google Contact Groups to Outlook Categories.
Thanks for the info, Charles.
Hey Troy -- I've seen several posts around the forum where people are asking for some kind of integration contacts/calendars/reminders on mac. I'd love to see that as well. If you ever get to a point where you can work on it, I'd be happy to beta-test the feature and help work out the kinks.
Thanks for all you do!
@herewego, thanks for the feedback! It confirmed our desire to have TntConnect sync directly with Google contacts/calendar/tasks, so that it will work on both PC and Mac.
Yes that would be fantastic! It's a big weakness with all the reminders because I only see them when I open the program, But if they popped up on my iphone/ google calendar it would be amazing!!
