How can I mark an email address as "preferred"?

The check box on the left of an email address indicates if it is valid or not.

The box to the right of an email address indicates if it is preferred or not.  Only preferred email addresses will be used for:

  • e-mail merge to Word
  • email newsletters
  • Sync with MailChimp

I had a problem last week with a synced email address. Since TntMPD and MailChimp are synched, TntMPD has my friend's gmail address marked as "preferred." He uses this address for  MailChimp email from me and reading blogs, etc., but not for direct personal correspondence.  His office address is his "preferred" address for our email conversations.

I feel the "preferred" field should reflect our correspondence relationship, instead of marking his secondary address where he dumps his lower priority email. You need a "sync to MailChimp field" or something like that.

Thanks for TntMPD and all your hard work!

Thanks for the suggestion.  For now, you should probably mention in the first line of the notes, this partner's email preference for personal correspondence, and leave the "Preferred" box checked for their MailChimp email address.

Is there any way to adjust this value with a mass field update?  Mailchimp messed up my newsletter list and I've got a search filter which identifies all the people whose emails SHOULD be preferred (making sure it is email #1).  Now I want to change 300 of them at once, but I can't seem to find the field which specifies that it is preferred...

Hi David,

Sorry, there's not a way to do this in mass.  If you knew this in time, you could probably just "File | Restore" and go back to the last auto-backup.  But it's probably too late for that, since you've probably been putting stuff into TntMPD since then.

How do I do a lookup on the email preferred field? And related, when I look up "Email is Valid", it doesn't seem to correspond to the Valid checkbox. Does it actually show results for which ones are preferred? That's what seems to be the case but I doubt this is intentional? Thank you for your ministry Troy.

The Email Preferred field isn't available for lookups.  (There's a technical reason for this.)

Can the Email Preferred field be exported when exporting contacts?

By: Troy Wolbrink Posted on 13 Jun 2020 12:15 AM

The "Email Preferred" field is not currently exportable.  But you can sort of figure it out if you export "Email" because this field only includes the email addresses marked as preferred.
