TntMPD 3.0.1 (lots of bug fixes!)

All of the reported bugs in TntMPD 3.0.0 have been fixed in TntMPD 3.0.1.  I really appreciate all those who gave feedback on 3.0.0.  It really helped.

Thanks,
Troy

P.S. If you'd like to know more about TntMPD 3.0, here's the original blog post about TntMPD 3.0.

Hey Troy,

why did you remove the Microsoft Access Menu? I had a connection with another database which I used to execute some custom select queries for statistics which my coach wants. The Query Editor from that menu is gone, the only thing that is left is the "File -> Utilities -> Run Query" but i cannot save my queries there like before. Please bring that feature back!

I've encountered two (unfixed) bugs in my preliminary testing of 3.0.1:

(1) Encountered Internal Error: Cannot find CountryID 0 when attempting to download addresses from organization (I have the details on this if needed)

(2) Drag-and-drop did not work on sent email dragged in from Outlook, even though recipient's email was on the contact.

Schaufi, It wasn't an easy decision to remove the Microsoft Access menu.  The main reason I removed it was because of the new encryption w/ password feature.  You can upgrade your Access database to the Access 2010 format (*.accdb) and you can update the linked tables to refer to your TntMPD database.  Then you can design and run your queries from within Access.  Shoot me an email or start a discussion on the beta testers blog on how you use the feature currently.  I'm open to rethinking this.

Bob, could you please send me a copy of your database (and password) that gives you the "CountryID 0" error?  I can't reproduce it.

Bob, regarding your drag-n-drop issue.  Could you call me over to your desk when you're able to reproduce it?  Or could you email me screenshots of the bug as it occurs?

Should I be able to update using the Help --> Check for BETA updates within tntMPD version 3.0.0? (I cannot)

Hi Troy, here's a big issue for you: the copyright date in the Help -> About dialog window say "2000-2012", which could be a bit confusing when doing tech support and trying to determine at a glance how old someone's TntMPD installation is...  :)

Dan, TntMPD 3.0 is still considered "Alpha" which means it's not yet Beta.  Once it's Beta, it will show up under "Check for BETA Updates".

Jason, Thanks for the head's up on the Copyright label!

Hi Troy, here's another minor UI quirk: Tab order on the "New Database Password - Security Questions" dialog.  It seems that the tab order is all the question text boxes, then all the answers.  I noticed it when I edited Q3 and then hit Tab expecting to then type in answer 3, but instead I was overwriting Answer 1.  Make sense?

Hi Troy, I updated our in-house TntServer emulator to send out some of the new fields that TntMPD 3 will use.  Thanks for all the new options!

UI Quirk: One of the new fields is a memo on a donation.  When viewing the Gift Details then you can only see the first sentence-ish of that memo in its text box.  If you hover the cursor over the box it'll display the whole memo, but just for a few seconds and then it disappears.  Kinda awkward.  Anything you can do about displaying those memos better?

Another UI Quirk: When opening an existing 3.0 DB and being prompted to enter my DB password, Tnt seems to be confused about the state of the Caps Lock key pretty often.  I am running 3.0.1 in a virtual machine, but entering text into other programs verifies that the keyboard's Caps Lock LED is being correctly interpreted by Windows in general.

Doing an Address Input from Web ends with a dialog that says, "Congratulations!  You have successfully synchronized address and phone information with <Org Name>."  However, now 3.0 can get email information too!

I just did my first gift input since 3.0 and I was impressed by the dialog that asked about the created tasks.

Well done!

I am now getting 3.01 and seeing how it works.

When I try to restore a backup of my database to get to an earllier version, I get the error:  "Could not delete....(filename)"

Jason, I think I'll have a good solution for the tab order for the 3 answers/questions.  When 3.0.2 comes out, you'll have to give it another try.

I'll make the Memo box for gifts taller and have a scroll bar.

I'm thinking of changing the verbiage "Address and Phone" to "Donor" or "Donor Account".  Like "Donor Input from Web" and "Congratulations! You have successfully synchronized donor information with <org name>."  What do you think?

I'm not sure about the Caps lock issue.  It works perfectly in my testing.  My hunch is that it's related to your virtual machine setup.  Start a topic in the beta testers forums w/ screenshots and steps to reproduce if you're still running into an issue.

Nicholas, Thanks!

Matt, I'll look into this issue.  Thanks for reporting it.

I sent all of my contacts to Outlook and from there to my iPhone. I noticed two related things:

1. Almost all of my contacts are in the USA, and United States ofAmerica is listed as the country. I don't need the country if it is the U.S.

2. The country name is missing a space between "of" and "America"

I just tested the drag-and-drop email with a contact with whom I had exchanged several dozen emails recently (these weren't MPD emails--I was just testing).

The Received emails correctly posted to the selected contact, both for the emails received from the contact's first email as well as the secondary email after I added that email and resolved them.

However, when I dragged the SENT emails--and equal number--none of them posted to the recipient's history.

Hi Bob,  TntMPD doesn't send the country to Outlook if it's the "USA" (and that's the default country in TntMPD).  But the iPhone (and/or iCloud or Google contacts) tends to put the country in anyway.  Just to demonstrate it, try to remove the country on your iPhone.  (I don't think you can.)

You'll have to send me a screenshot of the missing space between "of" and "America".

Re the SENT emails ... please give me more details.  Where did they go?  Are they showing in the Pending Actions pane?  What does the popup hint show when you hover over one of the pending email in the list?

Troy, I was wondering if I 'upgrade' by db by using alpha version 3.0.1 if the db is then no longer backward compatible?  I would to help you out with some testing of 3.0.1, but am just trying to determine the 'best' method.  Just in case something goes wrong in the alpha version.  You can chalk my question up to years of working in the software industry and upgrades not always working.  thanks.

Very minor question - In the auto task list from a gift import - I see a minor change in what the task does with a gift with no change (ie. as in penny's).

Example:

Before: Send thank-you for gift of $50.00 (last thank was 12 month(s) ago).

Now: Send thank-you for gift of $50 (last thank was 17 month(s) ago).

Was this intentional? Not a big deal but thought I'd mention it if it wasn't.

Eric, Once a database is upgraded to the TntMPD 3.0 format, it's no longer backward compatible with prior versions of TntMPD.  You could test w/ a copy of your database.  TntMPD makes an auto-backup before any upgrade w/ the appropriate name, so you can always go back to where you were w/ a prior version.

herbietld, Yes, the dropping of cents was intentional.  Cents only appear when it's not a whole dollar amount.

Thanks Troy.  Is there a way to run the two version of Tnt side-by-sde then?

Troy Wolbrink wrote re: TntMPD 3.0.1 (lots of bug fixes!)

To run two versions side by side:

On Windows:  Yyou can install TntMPD 2.1 and then grab a copy of TntMPD.exe (and call it something different like "TntMPD.2.1.exe").  Then you can install TntMPD 3.0.  Put your copy of "TntMPD.2.1.exe" back into the installation folder (next to TntMPD.exe) and create a shortcut to it.

On Mac:  Rename the "TntMPD" in your "Applications" folder to "TntMPD 2.1".
