I've been working on a new TntMPD for Mac. It no longer needs X11 or XQuartz to run. Also, when it runs, you see "TntMPD" as the application name on the menu bar (instead of X11 or XQuartz). When you close TntMPD, it doesn't leave behind X11/XQuartz. And if you Command-Q to quit TntMPD, you are given a warning about losing any unsaved changes with the option to cancel. I believe this is a very good step forward!
I released it to beta yesterday, and about 9 people downloaded it. From the best I can tell, 5 received an error, and 4 did not. All 5 who received an error had the same error. It was "OLE error 80004005" and it was reported as soon as TntMPD tried to connect to a database. Here's a forum post from one such user. I have since removed it from being advertised in the "Downloads" section. But it's still available from here (TntMPD.2.1.72.dmg).
I received the same error when I was testing. For me it worked to just delete TntMPD from the "Applications" folder and to then copy it back in from the installer (TntMPD.2.1.72.dmg). I may have restarted also.
The problem is I can no longer reproduce this issue in my testing. I though it was a fluke, but the evidence from these 9 users shows it's clearly not. So I'm a little stuck. If someone can help me figure out how to reproduce this issue, you'd really help TntMPD for Mac move forward. And if you get stuck, you can always reinstall TntMPD for Mac 2.1 r56.
Thanks,
Troy
