About TntWare

TntSync is a powerful add-in for TntMPD that allows you to keep two TntMPD databases synchronized. It can also be used to backup TntMPD databases to an external drive.

 Getting Married?

Use TntSync to merge two databases together. After making backup copies of each database, use TntSync to synchronize them, and then you will both have the same, complete file.

Overview of how TntSync works with TntMPD databases

TntSync synchronizes two copies of a TntMPD database, one it calls the "Local" and the other "Remote". The TntSync process performs the following steps:

1. It performs a series of comparisons to check for changes (for example, if one file has new gifts the other one does not)

2. It shows you what the differences are and what action TntSync will perform, such as Create or Delete the item from one database or the other.

3. If there is a conflict between the same data in both files, it will alert you that it must Skip the synchronization. You would have to resolve the discrepancy in one database or the other and then synchronize again.

When using TntSync to keep non-TntMPD files and folders synchronized, TntSync does not compare the contents of the files; if both copies of an Excel file, for example, have been changed, TntSync will offer to skip the file, but will not show you which cells are different.

The best way to learn to use TntSync is through trial and error.

 Duplicate Value Error

This error occurs when you download a gift on two different computers and then modify the gift on one of them (for example, by assigning the gift to an appeal).

To resolve this error, you need to run TntSync repeatedly, doing the following steps.

1. Run TntSync again to figure out where it stops (typically after checking the gift table).

2. Run TntSync again, but stop before hitting sync on the table where the error occurs

3. If you have many gifts on that table, first look for gifts that are the same dollar amount, and have opposing suggestions (e.g., "create" one way and "replace" the other way). Right click on the action and select Skip. If you can't find any that seem obvious, just select about 10 gifts to Skip, and then press Sync.

4. TntSync should finish the Sync.

5. Then repeat Step 3 until you have narrowed the two items down to the ones that are causing the error. Find out which one is more correct (by double-clicking on it and viewing the details), and delete the other one (by right-clicking on the action).

TntSync comes with TntMPD.  It's under the "Tools" menu.

As of TntMPD 2.1.60 (5/13/2011), the Duplicate Value Error is rarely seen.

Does TNTSync sync the backup files or the original database files? I'm having trouble with mine.

Andy, check out the next page in the help manual:

It shows where you specify which two database files you want to sync.

Thanks for TntSync - it's an invaluable tool for resolving conflicts when they occur!

"The best way to learn to use TntSync is through trial and error."

When you're facing the possibility of losing hard-earned data that you've accumulated over months and years, most of us don't want to learn by trial and error. Thankfully, there is now a basic tutorial at

For example, it reveals "To view the record and see which data field is in conflict, double-click anywhere in the row." -- something I was looking for but would never have discovered by trial and error.
