Pins are now visible in recent update. Thank you. I just updated Version 4.0 from r48 to r50.

For years, I have had hundreds of red pins in the map.

Now there are no pins. The map is up. "Current Group" is selected. Contacts view is displayed. The most rercent TNTConnect version is installed.

What should else should I check?

When it comes to Google, privacy is definitely something to consider. In general, I'd say their use of data is benign. Maybe they tailor ads based on the data. But how long they retain the data, and how much they allow governments access to it when subpoenaed is another concern. If you're in a super sensitive area and if the contacts in TntConnect are also in this super sensitive area, then it might be a good idea to turn the Google map off (available in the Options dialog).

Should I be concerned because of privacy? Does google save this data or is it gone again once I close TNT?
