Greetings

Default greetings help customize letters and envelopes. When a custom greeting is made, that text becomes bold.

Greeting

No last name. Commonly used as the salutation in a letter.

Full Name

Includes titles if used in the contact information.

Short Name

First and last names, without titles.

If the contact is an organization (box checked), TntMPD will replace all of the name information with a single name box.

What is the difference between Salutation and Greeting?

Bob Mac Leod wrote re: Greetings

In some languages/cultures, there are two different types of greetings depending on whether it is email or paper mail (for example). The addition of a second greeting field was an attempt to allow for that possibility. For most users, there is no difference.

Salutation = "Dear " + Greeting + comma

How is the short name used by TntMPD? Is it used for providing the written name on emails. It seems like maybe that's what it's doing, but I'd appreciate hearing an explanation of when that name is outputed by TntMPD.

The "Short Name" is used in many places in TntMPD.  Mostly for window titles when displaying contact-specific info in a dedicated window (like when editing a task or email info).  It's also used for the "Add Referrals" screen for the referral name that gets applied to the new contacts.  --Troy

How can I change all the Greetings ( in which field). I do have all in German and want in French? Thank you!

This is a great question for the Forum. If your contacts are marked in France, their greetings should automatically be in French (the greeting is country-based). But this Greetings tab is where you can manually adjust any individual greeting.

Typically in showing respect for a Pastor I would default the greeting to Dear Pastor (lastname). Is there any way to change the way TntMPD to automatically make it that?

Possibly, David.  What if the pastor is married?  (And I assume TntMPD would know he's a pastor because "Pastor" was the title?
